FIFA looking into empty stadiums

June 14, 2010

Just a few days ago I made a note that the stadiums seemed to be empty, despite FIFA claiming they had sold 97% of the tickets to the World Cup.  This morning the Holland vs Denmark match had about 11,000 empty seats.  The Japan vs Cameroon match which is about to kickoff seems to be about half full at best.

Well FIFA has decided to look into this.  They say that many of the sold seats are remaining empty, and there is a question about whether the transportation is to blame.  It’s nothing new for a team or organization to pad the stats about how many people are coming to games, but FIFA is clearly taking this seriously as it looks bad to have the premier tournament in the world with no one in the stadiums.
