Fun Financing Fact of the Day

The Eiffel Tower cost 7.8 Million francs to build in 1886.  Gustave Eiffel raised around 6.5 million francs in private funds for the construction.  The French government contributed around 1.5 million francs to the construction costs.  Eiffel paid off the 6.5 million francs in one year.  Who says the government must publicly finance iconic structures?
