I gave a talk at the Economic Society of Northern Alberta yesterday on the proposed new arena in Edmonton. The arena proposal has dropped off the radar here in Edmonton, except for a brief announcement from Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach last week reminding everyone that no provincial money for arenas in Alberta.
The slides from my ESNA talk are available in PDF format. I still expect that a significant taxpayer subsidy will be provided for construction of the facility, because the Oilers still hold all the cards in the negotiation. I also expect that something will happen this Fall, because the Oilers lease on Rexall Place is going to expire before long.
